Our volcano has erupted!

This week the children have been learning about volcanoes and have done lots of activities around this topic. Throughout the week the children  made a large volcano and on Friday we watched it erupt using  a science experience. I have attached a video for you to see the explosion.

Christmas has officially arrived in Foundation as we have been learning our songs for our performance. The children are very enthusiastic and are very excited about a Hippopotamus that may be visiting us.

We will be continuing with our rehearsals over the next few weeks so I am sure you will all know the songs by the time they get to perm for you. We will be giving out more details of the concert nearer the time as consideration will be taken in relation to Covid at that time.

Next week we will be spending time in our outside classroom. We will be lighting our fire pit and cooking some food on it. The children will be looking at habitats of bugs that are around at this time of year.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Mrs Robinson.

Thinking about our actions.

We have had another busy week in foundation and have enjoyed some lovely sunny weather. The children have enjoyed the outdoor environment in the warm autumn sun with lots of great learning.

It has been Antibullying week and the children have used books and other resources to help the children express themselves. We encourage them to communicate their wants and needs and to work through problems with support and independently.

On Friday we have learnt what Children in Need means. We spoke about the importance of kindness, sharing and giving. The children shared their own experiences of acts of kindness and they were thinking of what they can do in the future to help the ones in need.

One of the Prime areas of learning in Foundation is PSED which stands for Personal, Social and Emotional Development. It is important that the children have an understanding of who they are, how they feel and how to be with others. Our curriculum enables the children to become confident and helps them make sense of many new situations. Relationships lie at the heart of all human experience and interaction, and it is vitally important that young children are helped to learn the social skills needed to interact successfully with other people and to form good relationships. This aspect of your child's development is ongoing and not just highlighted during antibullying week.

Have a great weekend

SPACE

This week the children have enjoyed travelling into space with our new spaceship. They have learnt about the planets and the solar system. We are going to continue with this topic over the next few weeks so if you have anything interesting at home that can support this please send it in.

A new aspect to the revised EYFS is to support children with dental hygiene. This week Mia's mummy, who is a dental nurse came to talk to the children about their teeth. Mia was able to tell the children about all aspect of dental hygiene and we would like to thank her mummy for spending the time with us.

On Thursday we had a minutes silence to remember people who help us and make sure that we are safe. The children did this by closing their eyes and sitting quietly. They actually managed a whole minute!

Next week we are going to start to learn our Christmas songs so watch out Santa's about!

Have a good weekend.

Mrs Robinson:)

Diwali

This week we have celebrated Diwali with the children, which is the Hindu festival of light.

The world Diwali means 'rows of  lighted lamps' because houses, shops and public places are decorated with small oil lamps called 'diyas'. Diwali always falls some time between October and November, but the exact date varies each year as the Hindu calendar is based on the Moon. This year Diwali is on Thursday 4th November. We would like to thank Kashi and her mum for sharing this celebration with us. The children really enjoyed learning about this festival and created their own Rangoli patterns.

The children have come back full of energy and ready for learning after their break. Its good to see that lots of the bugs from last term are gone, fingers crossed.

We have spent time this week learning about looking after ourselves and our bodies. The children have a good understanding about respecting each other in the setting and knowing about their own privacy. We have shared a video from the NSPCC called pantosaurus which they have enjoyed singing along to.

Next week we are going to be learning about space and we will be making a spaceship in the setting. The children will be able to enjoy a ride into space using their imaginations and our new role play space ship.

We are also going to have a visit from Mia's mummy who is a dental nurse. She is going to talk to us about keeping our teeth healthy.

I hope you have a good weekend and look forward to seeing some of you at the fireworks tomorrow.

Regards

Mrs Robinson
