 Hello all,

This week in Nursery, we have been busy celebrating Chinese New Year and exploring lots of exciting traditions and cultural experiences.

We began by learning about how families prepare for the celebration. The children discovered how homes are decorated with red and gold, how families share special meals together, and how people wish each other good luck for the year ahead.

One of our favourite activities was performing our very own dragon dance! The children worked together brilliantly, moving carefully and rhythmically to bring our dragon to life. It was wonderful to see such fantastic teamwork and enthusiasm.

In our creative area, we made beautiful dragon crafts and explored Chinese-inspired art. The children showed great care and creativity in their designs.

We also practised using chopsticks, which was quite a challenge! The children showed amazing perseverance as they learned how to pick up small objects. To make our learning even more memorable, we tasted some delicious noodles.

Our focus story was Chinese Zodiac. The children loved learning about the Great Race and how the animals crossed the river. They worked together to sequence the animals in the correct order, carefully listing each one:

Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

A big thank you to Hope and Faith’s mum for coming into Reception to talk to us about Chinese New Year. She shared a lovely presentation about how the festival is celebrated and brought in beautiful traditional costumes for us to see.

The children really enjoyed learning about this special celebration and were very excited to see the colourful outfits. Thank you for making our learning so special!

It has been a week full of curiosity, creativity and cultural learning.

We are also very happy to welcome some warmer weather and sunshine! With brighter days ahead, we are looking forward to enjoying even more outdoor learning, exploring and discovering together.
