Growing

This week the children have been looking after the plants and making sure they have plenty of water and sunshine. We have been observing the changes but so far our herbs have not started to grow yet. We have discussed about the growth that takes place under the ground first before we can see it so the children have high expectations for what will eventually come to the surface. The children noticed that our cress which we planted 2 weeks ago is still growing. We have drawn some pictures of what it looks like.

We have been looking at shapes this week and the children have been identifying 2D and 3D shapes. They were able to identify the shapes and draw them in their books. Please can you get the children to look at shape in the environment this weekend and see what they can find. If they could draw some shapes and bring them into school we will be able to display them around the room.

We hope that you all have a fantastic long weekend and we will see you all on Tuesday.

This week in nursery we have been looking after the cress that we planted last week. We watered it daily and discussed the changes that we could see. On Friday we decided it was ready to eat so we made our own bread and we also made our own butter. The children really enjoyed shaking the milk and watching it turn into butter. I think the best part was eating it!. They were all eager to try the cress as they had watched it grow. We decided we would plant some herbs as we thought it would be good to use our senses to identify each herb through smell.

I am sure you have noticed just how dirty the children are at the end of the day. Apologies for that but I can assure you they are having an amazing time and are exploring and learning outside. Unfortunately it is very dusty at the moment as we have had no rain. I should be careful what I wish for!

Next week we will continue to nurture our plants and we will be recording what we see.

Have a great weekend

Welcome back, it has been an exciting week in nursery with some new equipment arriving for our outdoor areas. The children have enjoyed using wheelbarrows to move logs around and create new areas to play. The weather has been a great help and Summer is definitely in the air. We have talked about all the things that are growing and changing around us. The children have looked at the blossom on the trees and we have planted some cress. Next week we will be making our own bread and  butter and we will make cress sandwiches.

We have been talking about stories and have discussed what an author and an illustrator is. The children have created their own stories  and we have displayed them around the room. Please encourage your child to use their imaginations to tell stories. You can then scribe what they say which makes their stories come to life.

As the weather is changing, on the off chance that we get a hot day can you please make sure you apply sun cream in the morning as nursery is in a sheltered spot and it can become very hot.

Have a great weekend.

I cant believe we are now approaching the Easter holidays and how different it feels from last year.

We can only hope  looking forward that we can enjoy the Spring and Summer months with some optimism.

This week we have learnt about the Easter story and have started to observe the changes that are taking place in the environment. The flowers are beginning to grow and the blossom is coming out. The children have painted and created observational pictures of the flowers that are growing around them.

We have really noticed a difference in how they play this week. The weather has impacted on this as the children have been outside without coats, hats and gloves, this has allowed them more movement and it is clearly evident through observation that they are now like lambs that have just been sheared, jumping and bouncing around. Their interactions have really moved on and they are using problem solving skills independently with their play and social interactions. It is a wonderful thing to observe.

We are going to be planting seeds when we return so that we can observe growth and change.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter break and we look forward to seeing you soon.

SUPERHEROES

The children have settled well into nursery and all seem very happy to be back with their friends. We are observing them to identify any gaps in their development but so far we are finding that they have stepped right back into where they were before lockdown. There are a few little boundary and behavior issues but we will have this sorted very soon.

This week we have had superheroes in Foundation. The children have created their own super powers and have been practicing using them in the setting. This topic has stimulated their imaginations and helped them understand and engage in make belief which is such an important part of their development.  They have written about their super powers and how they will use them to help others. I told them I had a super power and they had to guess what it was. I was wearing gloves and had some metal objects on the floor, I moved my magic hands across the objects and they lifted off the ground. The children were fascinated and could not believe that I was magnetic. I was quite surprised myself with how convincing it was.  Maybe you can all find some super powers this weekend. If you do please send a photo in to me via Teams please.

I hope you all have a great weekend.
