Fun in the sun

This week the children have been practicing for sports day and have spent lots of time with Mr Mills running on the track. We have looked at what sports days look like in other schools so that the children had an idea what it actually meant. I hope you all had a good day watching or for some having to join in with the activities.

It was good to see some of you at our induction evening on Wednesday and we are looking forward to welcoming our new families into our school community. It will be strange that your children will become the older ones as they join reception. We are very lucky at Little Heath as we no transition issues as the only changes for your children will be that they will only be sitting on a different carpet. Sometimes children get upset at the thought of transitioning to another class so we do encourage you to not build up this situation for them. As far as they are concerned they will be coming to us in the same way we will just have some new children to play with. Please speak to me if you have any concerns about any issues in relation to this.

We have continued learning about the Life cycle of a butterfly this week and we  can't believe how quickly our caterpillars are growing. We think they have tripled in size since last week. The children are very observant and can describe the changes in the caterpillar's appearance very well. Throughout the week we have been story telling 'The very hungry caterpillar'. The children used the props to sequence the events of the story.

Next Friday is the reception assembly and we are looking forward to watching them share their work with their families. We also have parent consultations on Thursday so please sign up if you have not already done so.

Have a great weekend.

What a hot week we have had. The children have enjoyed having fun with the water sprays which have been a fun way to help us cool down.

This week we have turned our fruit and milk station into a shop. The children have been learning about money and have had to pay for their fruit and milk using the till and coins. It has been a great way to introduce money to the children in a fun way. We will be continuing with the shop theme over the next few weeks. We have also had a delivery of caterpillars which we are going to look after and put into our butterfly enclosure. The children will be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and other life cycles in our environment.

Next Wednesday we are having our induction evening for our new families joining us in September and also our existing nursery parents. Please speak to me if you have any concerns about this event.

Thursday is our sports day. The children will be in groups with their siblings and other children throughout the school. When you arrive you will be able to join your child's group as they do activities. Each group has a member of staff with them so please be reassured that your child will be ok. We will congregate on the school field so find your child and join in. We are hoping for nice weather so fingers crossed. The children can come to school wearing their own sports clothes.

Please continue to send your child into school with a sun hat and sun cream as the lovely sunny weather continues.

Have a great weekend

Welcome back, the time is flying and it will soon be the end of the year. We still have lots of time for learning in Foundation and this week the children have been using their ICT skills by using a camera to take photos of each other. They really enjoyed doing this. They were amazing at striking funny poses  behind the camera lens. We are going to see how this develops over the next week, who knows we may find some amazing photographers in the unit.

The children have helped make the Royal carriage for the parade on Sunday through Potters Bar. If you are not walking with us we hope to see some on you along the route. Shout and give us a wave, we will have the queen with us she may even wave back.

Have a good weekend.

Around The World

This week we continue with our ' Around the Word' topic. Henry brought pictures from America where he could see crocodiles and an enormous  Hulk made of lego. We learnt about Enzo's family and looked at the village where  Enzo's Papi lives in Italy and the village where his nana is from in Cyprus. Mrs Sheehan has told the children the legend of Poland and has begun to teach them 'The Wheels on the bus' in Polish.  It is great to see the children developing their knowledge and curiosity about the World and we look forward to seeing more photos and hearing interesting stories from all our children.

The children have been checking on our mini garden where we are growing plants and some vegetables. They are understanding the importance of looking after them and watering them daily. We will observe and monitor their growth and discuss the changes taking place.

Next week we are holding a Platinum Jubilee Celebration afternoon on Friday, 27th May for parents. The event will start at 2.00pm and will take place on the school grounds. All the classes will be performing a song from every decade that the queen has been on the throne. Children will be sat in class groupings but parents will be allowed to sit with their children as long as the class teachers know that you have your child. On the day the children should come to school dressed in red, white and blue, refreshments will be for sale during the afternoon. As the event is taking place outside it will be weather dependent. Fingers crossed though that it will be able to go ahead and help give us a rousing send off into the half-term break. If you would like to make a donation towards the refreshments, please send your donations in from Thursday 26th May. Please label any boxes you would like returned to you.

I think that Grace had a good day at nursery in the mud.
Have a great weekend

AROUND THE WORLD

Another great week of learning in Foundation. We have continued  playing board games with the children, introducing new ideas and mixing groups together. We have consolidated their ability to communicate and turn take which is working well. Hopefully this will work in other areas of learning and support their communication and language development along with their personal, social and emotional skills.

This week we have started to  explore the topic 'Around the World'
Ms Rickhy told us some interesting facts about Trinidad and Tobago which is where she was born and Harrison told us about St. Lucia, the country where his grandmother lives. We also learnt from Stevie and Aris about kangaroo's from Australia and their Greek holiday that they will be having later this year. Arianna shared some photos with us about her holiday in Devon when she was a baby.
Please continue sending pictures from different places around the world. Teaching children about the world and different cultures helps them to understand the world and appreciate the differences in people.
Next week Mrs Sheehan will introduce Poland to the children and hopefully we will have some photos and stories from the class too, so it would be fantastic if you can manage to walk to school as often as possible.
Have a great weekend

 Hello everyone,

This week in Nursery we have been playing different games and discussed the importance of learning  the rules while playing a game. The children especially enjoyed playing Double, Snakes and Ladders, Connect Four and Hopscotch. There are so many benefits of taking part in a game, amongst others, games teach children to follow instructions, build communication skills, help children learn to fail and encourage healthy competition.

From next week we will be looking at a map of the world and we will discuss different locations which are familiar to us. It might be a place where our relatives come from or which we have visited during a holiday.  It would be great if the children could bring a photograph to school of the place they want to show and tell us a short story related to the picture. Next week Ms Ricky will tell us about Trinidad and Tobago.

Please make sure your child has sun cream and a sun hat on next week as it is going to be hot.
