This week we have really noticed a change in the weather and the children are beginning to notice that the trees are changing colour. We have  looked as the leaves and discussed the changes that are taking place. Autumn is such a lovely time of the year for nature as the colours change so much. We are going to be looking more at the changes over the next few weeks so if you are out and about at the weekend please bring in something that your child notices on a walk.  On another note I am sure you are all aware that the children have had many changes of clothes this week. We allow the children to play outside with coats on and I am sure you can appreciate that they inevitably get wet or muddy. Please be reassured that we do not have a problem with this and are happy to change them into the spare clothes so that they are comfortable. What we do ask is if you could return the clothes to us ASAP so that we can use them again.
Have a good weekend.

We have had another exciting week in Foundation and can’t believe we have only been back a couple of weeks. The children are so established and confident in the setting. They are managing to access resources independently and they are understanding routines and boundaries.

We have been listening to traditional tales and the children have really enjoyed the Gingerbread Man so we have decide we will make our own next week. We are also going to be sending home a library book for them to share with you. We will change this book every Monday so please try to return them regularly.

We have also been learning our Harvest songs and the children have enjoyed singing about fruit and vegetables which you will hear them sing at our Harvest coffee morning on the 11th October.

I would like to collect some photographs of all our families so that we can display them in the room. The children love to share photographs with each other so we would like to create a family gallery. Please bring them in next week.

Have a great weekend.

We have had a fantastic week in nursery and the children are continuing to establish themselves in their new environment. We have been observing their interactions and we have all spent time getting to know each other. It is really helpful that the reception children are established as this gives the new children a sense of security knowing that they can do what the other children are doing. This is also a good time for the reception children as they take on the responsibility of  supporting and showing the new children how we do things and how things work. This is truly one of the benefits of working as a Foundation unit.
I have given you all a settling in form to fill out which will go into their learning journal. Please can you return this to me by Monday.
The children do not need to bring in drinking bottles with water as we use our own at nursery. The children are very self sufficient with this task and we are encouraging them to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Next week we are going to be creating some art work around wall art and we will be looking at the artist Banksy.
If you have any recycling bits could you please bring them in as the children use them for making models. This can include : plastic bottles, boxes, yoghurt pots etc.
Have a great weekend.

What a fantastic start we have had in nursery this week. The children have settled well and have enjoyed all the new experiences on offer in the setting. I hope it has not been too stressful for you all as I know how it feels to leave your child for the first time. Please be reassured that if your child is upset we will endeavour to sort it and comfort them. We will also contact you if they do not settle as we are happy for you to adjust their hours until they are settled.
I have put some photographs on the blog to show you what we have been doing this week.
We look forward to seeing you next week.

Our final week has arrived and we are all ready for a long holiday. The children are excited about moving into year 1 and we have had lots of visits from Miss Davis so they are familiar with her and her with them. She has watched how they interact and learn and will take that forward into Year 1. The children who are leaving us are also excited and have all visited their new schools. I have managed to speak to most of their teachers and they are looking forward to them starting in September. We have had most of the children for 2 years so it is always a bit of a wrench watching them go but we look forward to hearing how they are getting on in year 1 from Miss Davis. We normally pay them a visit in the first week.
We have had a relatively normal week and have tried to keep to our routine as much as possible. We were lucky on Friday to be able to watch the Year 6 production which the children enjoyed.
On Monday and Tuesday we will be sorting out the room with the children and asking them to help  decide what we should have for next year so that they can be part of the change.
On Tuesday we finish school at 2.00pm. School Road gets very busy as the Year 6 leavers have lots of family members come along to see them leave school for the last time. If you are driving I suggest you park in the side streets and walk in or get here a little earlier. You have been warned!!!!!
I would just like to say a great big thank you for all the support you have given us this year. To all our parents who are leaving we wish you all the best and to our parents who are staying, see you in September.
Have a great Summer.

We started our week with a visit to the church. Chris the curate told them the story of Noah's Ark and they had a look around the church. Thank you to the parent's who helped walk the children over.
We have also had a visits from our new children. The children were very welcoming and took time to interact with their new friends. It was lovely to see how they suddenly became grown up and demonstrated many things that the new children could do in September. Our Reception children spent time in year one so it is all change. We are all getting ready for a break and the children are beginning to show signs of tiredness. We are trying to keep things as normal as possible as they do get upset easier at this time of year as things begin to change. We will continue with all our normal activities until the final day.
On Wednesday we had a karaoke sign along with a pretend microphone which the children thought was real. I have uploaded the video for you to see. I think we may have some X Factor candidates.
Have a great weekend.

The sun has been kind to us this week and the children have spent lots of time outside. We had our picnic on Tuesday which the children enjoyed. They made all their own sandwiches and decorated the biscuits. They were very good at eating them as well!
The children loved taking the parents into the wildlife area and showing them insect and plants that are growing and living naturally.
Henry brought in a sunflower  and the children used their observational skills to draw what they saw. We have also listened to some traditional tales which stimulated the children's imaginations.
On Monday we are going to visit Christ Church to look at the building. Chris the curate is going to talk to us about the building and tell us a story. On Wednesday we will be having our new nursery children in the unit for an hour in the morning and on Thursday our new reception children will be joining us, we are also having our parent consultations next week. Please make sure you have booked your slot or speak to me if you have any problems.
Could you please have a look at home and see if you have any library books so that we can collect them in before the end of term.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs Robinson.

What a busy week we have had in Foundation. We had our sports day which the children really enjoyed. They have been practising some of the activities during their PE lessons and I think one of the favourites was the skateboard swimming. I was surprised how easily they managed to pull themselves along at some speed especially when Mr Mills was shooting them with water.
We have also had our induction evening for our new families. It always makes me a little sad at this event as it make me realise that our older children will be moving on. Having the children for 2 years has really allowed us to see them grow and develop and I know that they are going to have a fantastic time in year 1. Our transition process has allowed Miss Davis to spend time with us each week in the unit so that she can see what the children do and how they interact with each other. Miss Davis has also been observing them during carpet time with Mrs Sheehan. They are all excited about moving into year 1 and are ready and raring to go.
On Tuesday 2nd July we are going to have a picnic in the garden. You are all welcome to come along at 2.15pm. Please do not bring along any food for the children as we will be making things for them to eat in school.
This weekend is our summer festival. I hope to see lots of you there. Sun hats and cream are a definite as I think its going to be a very hot one!

Have a great weekend
Mrs Robinson

Friday, 21 June 2019

It has been a strange week this week as I have been on the main gate in the mornings as Mrs Custis has been with year 6 to the Isle of Wight. What I really liked was that all the foundation children said good morning to me as they happily skipped down to the unit. At this time of year we are writing reports and reflecting on the children's learning and maturity. We are always overwhelmed at how much they have changed which we noticed when we looked at photographs of them at the beginning of the year. They are all telling me that they are going in year 1 as if it is tomorrow. I always reply "not Yet" as we still have lots more learning to do.
I am sorry I had to cancel the trip but the coach cost was very high and then the entrance fee on top would have made it a very expensive day so we have decided to have a picnic in the grounds, weather permitting. This will be held on the same day in the afternoon so you are all welcome to join us.
The children will be making their own food so please do not bring anything in for them. This also eliminates any risk for children with food allergies.
Next week we are having our sports day, weather permitting. I hear it may be a hot one so please make sure your child has a sun hat and sun cream on. You are welcome to come and support your child during the morning. The children are grouped with 2 children from each year group to do the activities. You can follow your child's group around and cheer them on. We organise the groups in the main sports hall then bring them into the playground. If you wait in that area you will see your child's group which you can then follow. It sounds complicated but it generally runs smoothly. If you cant find your child's group find me and I will point you in the right direction.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
Mrs Robinson.

We have spent some time in our new wildlife area so I have put a few photographs for you to see.
